The Accounting Intern assists the Chickasaw Nation Industries Corporate Finance Department with a variety of accounting and financial processes. This is a part-time internship with flexible working hours and is designed to provide well rounded exposure to corporate accounting in an environment of support and mentoring. The Accounting Intern must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program and should be detail-oriented with the ability to utilize a general knowledge of accounting principles and proficiency working with Excel spreadsheets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs assigned tasks such as conducting data entry, assisting with reconciliations, proofing spreadsheets and reports.
Under the guidance of a Finance Manager and general accounting staff members, learns to comprehend and apply CNI accounting policy and practices into daily functions.
Transfers data from the Costpoint software system into Excel spreadsheets. Gathers and organizes data for analysis.
Develops an understanding and application of the firm’s cost accounting practices.
Completes special projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.
Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a relevant college degree program at the time the internship will be served - either at the graduate or upper undergraduate level. Enrollment in a related field such as Business Administration, Accounting or Finance is preferred but not required. Background check may be conducted. Must have an acceptable GPA.

Basic knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, bookkeeping methods and data analytics
Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Excellent note taking and transcription ability
Ability to employ a customer service approach
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Ability to be dependable and to meet schedules / timelines
Excellent organization skills with ability to handle multiple projects and priorities
Well organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated
Ability to effectively ask questions and approach problems with an analytical mindset
Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Financial background helpful.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
