SUMMARY

The EM VMWare Virtualization System Administrator provides support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. This position analyzes, installs, manages, maintains, secures, and troubleshoots virtualization infrastructures and services, including virtual machines (VMs) and physical hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Analyzes, installs, manages, maintains, secures, and troubleshoots virtualization infrastructures and services, including virtual machines (VMs) and physical hardware.

Utilizes the Development, Test and Evaluation (DT&E) environment to perform installation, risk analysis, modification, security hardening, and validation of solutions.

Utilizes appropriate VMware vSphere applications and software required for installation, management, and upgrades, to include VMware PowerCLI and ESXi command language scripting and structure.

Ensures storage to Storage Area Network (SAN) is available and network virtual local area networks (VLANs) have been trunked properly for connectivity, ensure Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) settings on server hardware is optimized for running virtualization technologies.

Prepares and updates required documentation of the VMWare environment to support change management requirements (installation, operations, and configuration manuals) and other documentation as needed.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience working in or with Defense Health Agency or other military medical environment. Experience leading or supporting one or more VMWare implementation projects. 

Minimum for (4) years’ of experience with VMWare implementations.

Knowledge of end-to-end application architecture with awareness of hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network

Advanced knowledge of programming patterns

Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Excellent customer service skills with ability to be self-motivated

Extremely detail-oriented with ability to quickly grasp business needs and issues

Exhibits leadership qualities such as facilitating conference calls, managing expectations and coordinating deliverables

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment  

Ability to adhere to regularly-scheduled business hours

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

IAT Level II - one of the following: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, or SSCP

VCP, VCAP or VCDX

ADP II Position of Trust prior to commencing work

Must be a US Citizen

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
