The Business Analyst I provides a broad range of analysis of business needs for the Department of Energy (DOE). This position identifies improvement opportunities and coordinate closely with internal staff and external customers to support business requirements and enhance customer service. 


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Evaluates business processes, anticipates requirements, uncovers areas for improvement, and helps develop solutions.

Supports ongoing reviews of business processes. Stays up-to-date on the latest process and advancements to automate and modernize systems.

Conducts meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings. Effectively communicates ideas and plans to management and team members.

Gathers critical information from meetings with various stakeholders and produces useful reports.

Works closely with clients, technicians, and managerial staff.

Allocates resources and maintains cost efficiency.

Ensures solutions meet business needs and requirements.

Helps support projects and development of project plans, and monitors performance.

Updates, implements and maintains procedures.

Prioritizes initiatives based on business needs and requirements.

Manages competing resources and priorities.

Monitors deliverables and ensures timely completion of projects.

Tracks and manages federal employee time and attendance in assigned timekeeping system.

Provides employee travel support as required by regulations and DOE policy. Including making travel arrangements (e.g., airline, lodging and transportation reservations). Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers.

Supports records management activities, such as file maintenance and correspondence tracking.

Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


Bachelors Degree and two (2) years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Administrative support experience in a professional business environment. Experience creating detailed reports and giving presentations.


Must be a US citizen due to Federal government requirement

Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance


Knowledgeable in the analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system requirement specifications

Fundamental analytical and conceptual thinking skills

Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities

Extensive skills in exercising judgment in the absence of direct supervision

Exceptional organizational skills

Ability to balance multiple, quick-turnaround, high priority tasks

Ability to use strong communication skills and teamwork skills, including the ability to process and summarize complex information clearly and succinctly


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
