The Bus Driver provides safe, reliable and efficient transportation services for the Dining Facility (DFAC) at Fort McCoy, WI. This position provides scheduled shuttle bus services, mail pick-up, delivery/courier services, supply pick-up and delivery, transportation for visitors, lab transport services and the transport of facility staff and visitors while adhering to all applicable safety regulations. 


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Drives bus to transport passengers and performs courier services as assigned. Follows all required procedures including mail transportation, specimen transporting, etc.

Takes responsibility for the proper loading and offloading of vehicle.

Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles. 

Transports vehicles to vendors for repair estimates, maintenance and/or to facilities for washing, when required. 

Assists with gathering dispatch data. Helps to ensure that all daily dispatch paperwork is properly completed and that daily inspections are performed correctly. 

Maintains daily customer counts. 

Ensures all vehicles are clean and free from debris, both inside and out. 

Fuels vehicles when necessary following established approval processes. 

Participates in cross training to support other areas, when necessary (i.e., warehouse, inventory, dining, transportation, etc.). 

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of two (2) years commercial driving experience; or equivalent combination of education / training / experience. Must have satisfactory motor vehicle record.


Preferred Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with air brake and passenger endorsements

Initial requirement is a 15-passenger bus


Working knowledge of all applicable DOT rules and regulations, and local, state and federal requirements related to position

Operational knowledge of related safety regulations with ability to practice and promote required safety standards   

Ability to receive instructions and accurately complete assignments in a timely manner

Excellent communication skills having ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Excellent customer service skills with ability to work well with others (i.e., peers, customers, supervisors, etc.)

Ability to safely operate vehicles from personal size sedans up to and including passenger buses, flatbed trucks, etc.

Ability to effectively perform work both independently and in a team environment


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



This position frequently sits for long periods of time; uses hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and performs repetitive movements.  This position also requires the ability to use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects; see objects in very low light settings; bend, stretch, twist, or reach out; move arms and legs quickly; use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods of time; determine from which direction a sound comes; coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving.

Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm

Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects
