The Operations Analyst supports the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) Influenza Division (ID) by performing a wide variety of administrative, analytical and evaluative work related to program operations.  This position analyzes, evaluates and supports the daily functions necessary to ensure the effectiveness of program operations in meeting established goals and objectives.



Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Facilitates effective operations and the control of daily work by providing a variety of administrative, program and technical support to NCIRD/ID staff members and managers.


Helps maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).  Validates that such procedures are adhered to by staff.  Offers updates and suggestions for improvements to SOPs, as warranted.


Provides support for NCIRD/ID efforts in the areas of staffing / HR, procurement, logistics, meeting support and office maintenance.  Completes daily tasks such as monitoring time and attendance, serving as the Time Clerk, making domestic and international travel arrangements, handling meeting scheduling, escorting guests / visitors around the office, executing supply and service orders, and providing general professional and administrative duties.


Prepares reports, presentations and working papers in support of NCIRD/ID staff.  Manages development and review periods to ensure that all such artifacts are completed and submitted to the appropriate party on time.


Helps managers to understand topics such as staffing, budgets, property, purchasing and travel by developing / executing standard reports and ad-hoc management reports from existing data sources.


Supports emerging program needs and priorities, when requested.


Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize output.  Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.


Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.



Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.





Operational knowledge of general business and management principles

Knowledge and understanding of CDC/NCIRD/ID operations and programs

Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques for measuring effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of assigned programs

Excellent research and analytical skills with ability to identify problems, determine accuracy / relevance of information, evaluate alternatives and make recommendations

Ability to work independently in analyzing data and accurately applying business language, strategies and tactics

Exceptional customer service skills with ability to receive and provide information with clarity, courtesy and tact

Excellent written and verbal communications skills with ability to create effective presentations

Ability to work effectively with others to achieve goals and to serve as a liaison with both internal / external customers

Ability to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems and satisfy expectations

Ability to organize work, set priorities, and handle multiple projects

Skilled proficiency using Microsoft Windows / Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)

Ability to work independently or in a team environment for the successful achievement of goals and objectives



Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.



Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.



Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
