The Chemist performs routine laboratory analyses and supports research, development, and quality control activities under direct supervision. This role focuses on following established protocols and maintaining accurate documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance with laboratory standards.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS  

Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property. 

Must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders) to be considered for this position.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the followingOther duties may be assigned. 

  •  Performs complex analytical testing on biological specimens (including postmortem fluids and tissues) following established Laboratory SOPs and safety protocols.

  • Conducts forensic and chemical analyses using instruments such as Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/MS), UV/VIS Spectrophotometry, and Immunoassay.  

  • Prepares and handles chemical reagents, solutions, and standards according to prescribed formulas and laboratory requirements.

  • Records, verifies, and maintains accurate laboratory notes, data logs, and documentation in compliance with SOPs, ISO, and ABFT standards.

  • Calibrates, operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

  • Manages laboratory inventory and ensures proper storage and availability of chemicals, reagents, and supplies.

  • Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programs and assists in maintaining laboratory accreditation.

  • Conducts statistical analysis of laboratory data and interprets results.

  • Performs and supports independent and collaborative research to develop, validate, and implement analytical methods for new and emerging drugs.

  • Evaluates and recommends new equipment, methodologies, or technologies to enhance laboratory performance.

  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe laboratory environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a related field from an accredited institution. Requires one (1) year of related experience with a master’s degree (M.S.), or four (4) years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree (B.S.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is primarily performed in an office/clinic/lab setting. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feelRegularly required to reach with hands and arms. The work requires light physical exertion. May be required to perform handling activities with lightweight or easily moved items (e.g. books, file folders, boxes of office supplies, small machine parts, lab samples etc.). May perform movement activities for brief periods. May operate light equipment. Must be able to perform repetitive motions for brief periods. May be confined to a work area. The work environment involves moderate hazards, risks or discomforts. Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feelAbility to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision both near and far. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to identify and distinguish colors. Potential for exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens. May be required to wear safety and personal protective equipment.
