SUMMARY

The IT Support Specialist II provides full time support to the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) on site at 1000 Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC, Forrestal Building, in support of its mission. The IT Support Specialist will be responsible for managing assets, equipment moves and installations, assisting with reporting, monitoring equipment, conducting risk analysis, assisting with preparing project plans and making recommendations to management.     

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Assist by providing daily IT support to employees and contractors in resolving IT questions and issues. 

Provide support to the NE’s IT Manager in issuing, tracking and excessing IT assets, included but not limited to, desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices, and other DOE issued equipment.

Assist NE IT Manager with onboarding and offboarding tasks.

Assist NE IT Manager with IT equipment moves and installations.

Monitor and support NE’s hoteling reservation system and ensure IT equipment in hoteling locations are functioning properly.

Monitor NE shared equipment, such as network printers, copiers, scanners, large shredders, VTC and TEAMS systems, functionality and supplies.

Assist with monthly reporting requirements, i.e.  copier meter readings.

Assist NE staff using NE Mission applications including the installation of NE’s NE-DM application.

Assist in tracking user support requests generated by the NE IT Manager and those reported to the EITS Service Desk.

Assist with NE VTC/TEAMS and meeting rooms. 

Provide ad hoc assistance as required/requested by federal NE IT Manager.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company. 

  

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent and four (4) years of related experience.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATION

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot computer hardware/software issues at an intermediate level.

Excellent communications skills (both oral and written)

Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of ticketing systems with ability to clearly and concisely log tickets

Excellent customer service skills with ability to use tact in handling difficult individuals and/or situations.

Quick learner with ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

Flexible with ability to work a variety of shift assignments, including overtime and during inclement weather conditions.

Ability to be reliable and punctual.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
