SUMMARY 

The Engineering Technician provides engineering and installation support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Systems contract. This position provides construction and operation system support for the installation and engineering of various electrical power equipment and fuel systems. This position will travel up to 80% of the time. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Assists in the enhancement and/or maintenance of existing power systems at various FAA facilities. 

 

Trains in demolition and disposal of current powers system equipment, such as EG, UPS, electrical distribution equipment, fuel systems and fuel tanks. 

 

Trains and learns maintenance services for existing powers systems.  

 

Aids in the development and preservation of the overall production schedule for project deliverables. 

 

Learns survey of existing power systems and associated equipment as well as the physical facility for adequacy of exiting equipment and to ensure new power system requirements are accommodated at the FAA facilities. 

 

Learns to troubleshoots failures in equipment and systems. 

 

Aids in performance tests of electrical systems. 

 

Trains in the installation of specific electrical power system equipment installations that are included but not limited to: engine generators (EG), EG fuel system(s), EG fuel tank(s), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switch, electrical distribution equipment, and associated power system support equipment such as, power systems control hardware/software, HVAC, physical facility, and lighting. 

 

Ensures all safety requirements are met by the FAA and OHSA standards. 

 

Travels to FAA client sites up to 80% of the time.  

 
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.  

  

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company. 

  

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience working as an electrical technician focusing on power distribution systems or experience in a construction related discipline such as utility installation, general electrical, heavy equipment operation, welding, concrete, and mechanical preferred  

 

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION 
Must have a valid driver’s license.  CDL license a plus. 

Must have a clean driving record. 

Must be able to make deliveries, pick up orders or other associated tasks that require driving. 

Obtain and maintain required state and local licenses for electrical work preferred.

Knowledge of maintenance and operation procedures of power systems and equipment. 
Operational knowledge of Personal Computer Systems & Microsoft Office Suite. 
Knowledge of equipment fabrication, prototype assembly and testing. 
Technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills. 
Solid verbal and written communications skills. 
Organized with ability to handle multiple priorities. 
Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and techniques. 
Ability to work both individually and in a team environment. 
Ability to travel up to 80% of the time. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
     
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to grasp, grip or apply pressure to an object with the arms, hands, fingers and palm, while holding an object in the hand.  Frequently required to lift, raise or lower objects in a vertical direction, particularly heavy or bulky objects.  Moving objects backward, forward, in or out in a horizontal direction, particularly heavy or bulky objects.  Pulling, exerting a steady backward, downward, upward or outward force against an object - jerking, plucking, wrenching, stretching, towing, drawing, dragging or tugging objects in a sustained motion.  Pushing, pressing against something with steady forward, downward, upward or outward force - shoving, pushing, compressing, squeezing, mashing, packing, pressing, jamming, compacting, or squashing objects in a sustained motion.  Uses hand and power tools. The ability to see and distinguish colors, to visually distinguish shapes and patterns, to accurately sense distances (depth perception), to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide angles (peripheral vision).  Frequently uses the lower extremities and back muscles and moving on foot, particularly for long distances. May have exposure to indoor/outdoor adverse weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise - workers must wear protective hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.  Exposure to pollutants or allergens which can adversely affect the skin and/or the respiratory system such as gases, smoke, odors, mists, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils or solvents. Exposure to hazardous working conditions including moving machinery, electricity and/or working in high places.  The job requires the use of protective equipment such as hard hats, respirators, aprons, gloves, special clothing, safety shoes and safety glasses.
